Jennifer Merry

 

Jennifer Merry is a pianist, singer and teacher who has taught music to students of all ages in diverse settings for over 35 years. In addition to offering piano and voice lessons in her home studio, she is on the faculty of the Northwestern University Music Academy in Evanston, where she serves as Kindermusik coordinator and teaches Junior Piano classes, as well as private and group piano lessons

Ms. Merry has has been involved with early childhood music for over 20 years and has led programs featuring Music Together and Kindermusik. She has also taught general and choral music in public and private schools, and has led adult and youth choirs. Other institutions where Ms. Merry has taught piano include the Music Institute of Lake Forest, Roosevelt University and DePaul University. She was an early recipient of the D.H. Baldwin Fellowship Award for Excellence in Teaching, a national award which recognizes talented young music teachers and helps them to establish private studios.

Ms. Merry holds Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University in piano performance and pedagogy, and music education. She is a longtime member of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, the oldest musical organization in the city, which regularly presents concerts at various venues around Chicagoland. Ms. Merry has also worked as a piano accompanist to singers, instrumentalists and choral groups.

In addition to teaching and performing music, Ms. Merry is a published writer. She has reviewed new music for Clavier and American Music Teacher magazines, and has contributed articles to Keyboard Companion magazine.

An active member of the North Shore Music Teachers Association, she is currently serving as Sonata-Sonatina Festival Co-Chair. She holds Permanent Professional Certification in Piano from Music Teachers National Association, as well as Illinois State Certification in Music, grades K thru 12. She is very thankful to have been able to share her love of music with so many students in so many settings throughout the years!
